I scream, you scream, we all scream for City University’s ice cream as the frozen dessert will be sold on its Kowloon Tong campus from Wednesday.
The ice cream is made from milk sourced from cattle imported from Australia to the university's dairy farm in Lam Tsuen, Tai Po, which was set up to teach students animal husbandry and animal welfare.
With fresh milk already on sale, the additional six types of ice cream will be on sale at the school’s milk counter starting today.
Vanessa Barrs, the dean of the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences at the university, said the farm produces approximately 475 liters of milk daily.
She said the stable supply of milk enables the farm to make ice cream, and at the same time, allows students to understand food hygiene and safety.
She said the ice cream production is limited, and they anticipate being able to supply 1,500 cups next month.
Currently, there are no plans to sell the ice cream in stores outside of the university campus, Barrs added.
