A video went viral on Thursday showing a taxi being rammed by a sedan in Fanling after the cab tried to weave between vehicles.
The video recorded last month started with a sedan driving along the Fanling Highway toward Sheung Shui, while a dump truck was driving in the middle lane ahead.
A taxi sped up next to the sedan and was about to rear-end the dump truck. The taxi driver suddenly swerved to the right, cutting directly in front of the sedan's path.
The private car driver could not brake in time and rammed into the taxi, damaging its bonnet. The cab hit the road divider before flipping on its side.
It is also suspected that the sedan overturned as the recording began to spin shortly before ending.
It was learned that the incident occurred at 12.40 pm on December 23, and the 72-year-old taxi driver, surnamed Tsui, suffered head and neck injuries and was sent to the hospital.
Internet users expressed disdain for the taxi driver's attitude, saying that cutting into lanes indiscriminately was a disaster.
Some even showed screenshots showing that the taxi driver was suspected of using a mobile phone at the time, but the actual cause of the accident remains to be understood.
