Hong Kong's new electronic toll system HKeToll will be extended to the Aberdeen Tunnel from 5 am on Sunday (December 24) to replace all manual toll booths and Autotoll lanes. Motorists will no longer be required to stop or queue at toll booths for payments.
The Aberdeen Tunnel will be reduced to three lanes with the HKeToll implementation once all booths and auto toll lanes are done away with.
The Transport Department indicated that e-toll sensors for the Wan Chai-bound tunnel are installed on the overhead gantry in the eastbound section of Wong Chuk Hang Road near Aberdeen Sports Ground, as well as on the westbound section of Wong Chuk Hang Road. For the Aberdeen direction, the sensors will be installed near the tunnel exit.
Temporary traffic arrangements will be implemented in phases in the vicinity of the Aberdeen Tunnel, starting at 1 am that day.
Both directions of the Aberdeen Tunnel and its slip roads will be closed from 4 am to 5 am. During the closure of the Aberdeen Tunnel, four overnight franchised bus routes, namely No. N72, N90, N170, and N171, will be diverted via Nam Fung Road, Deep Water Bay Road, Wong Nai Chung Gap Road, and the vicinity of Happy Valley.
While three Hong Kong Island overnight green minibus routes, namely No. N4A, N4C, and N40, will be diverted via Nam Fung Road, Deep Water Bay Road, Wong Nai Chung Gap Road, and Stubbs Road.
