The Board of Directors of Hong Kong China Rugby (HKCR) announced on Tuesday that its chief executive, Robbie McRobbie, informed them that he intends to step down from his role in mid-2024.
McRobbie stated that having deliberated for a long time, he came to the conclusion that after staying in the organization for over 20 years, it was time to hand over the reins to a new CEO who may bring in new ideas and approaches for the move to Kai Tak Sports Park and the development of rugby in Hong Kong.
He added that it was time to find a new opportunity in Hong Kong and was honored to have worked in a sports-related role he was passionate about alongside great colleagues.
Chairman Chris Brooke stated that McRobbie had been a key part of Hong Kong's rugby world, and since taking over the role as chief executive in 2017, he had been a key leader who pushed the development of rugby events and grassroots development.
He added that the union was disappointed that McRobbie had decided to step down but still respected his decisions and wished him luck on the next step of his journey.
They added that his announcement of his stepping down ahead of time gives the association enough time to search for a successor and ensure a smooth handover.
The association is currently searching worldwide to recruit the best candidate to take over from McRobbie.
