A man was arrested for attacking a police officer after attempting to dine and dash early on Friday morning in Sheung Wan.
Shortly before 3 am today, a man who had finished his meal at a restaurant located on 108 Hollywood Road in Sheung Wan was required to pay HK$935 after a meal but refused to do so.
After arguing for over an hour, the restaurant employee contacted the police for assistance.
The police arrived after being alerted to the scene, checked the 32-year-old's pockets, and discovered that he did not have any cash or credit cards on him.
He was also requested to pay via Alipay, which was unsuccessful, and he was about to be arrested by the police for being unable to pay for the meal.
However, he suddenly got emotional, used his right shoulder to hit an officer, but was immediately subdued by other officers.
After a preliminary investigation, the police have arrested the man on suspicion of “assaulting a law enforcement officer” and “leaving without payment."
The suspect is currently being remanded under police custody for further questioning.
The officer who was attacked sustained head injuries and was taken to Queen Mary Hospital for medical attention while in a conscious state.
