His comments came after the city’s tourism chief Kevin Yeung Yun-hung announced that a series of Night Vibes Hong Kong events will be launched at Temple Street Night Market next month with a shorter duration than the harborfront night markets.
Yeung said promotions in Temple Street will showcase its unique flavors, such as local food and performances. He said that Temple Street had different performances in the past and traditional cultural practices like fortune-telling.
Speaking to a radio program this morning, Raymond Chan Kam-wing of the Yaumatei Temple Street Association of Hawkers and Shop Operators, said he hoped the Temple Street Night Market to become a must-see attraction in Hong Kong.
He said around 30 food and snack stalls will be added to the area, with some operators coming from nearby well-known eateries.
Meanwhile, Chan mentioned that discussions with the Transport Department regarding a road closure to accommodate the night market were currently in progress, and a concrete plan would be announced within this week.
When asked about the potential noise pollution affecting nearby residents, Chan said staff would be hired to conduct patrols after 10 pm, politely requesting visitors or diners to lower their voices.
He expressed confidence that most visitors would comply after being reminded by the patrol team, thereby resolving the issue.
