Secretary for Security Chris Tang Ping-keung on Monday slammed Ted Hui Chi-fung, one of the wanted self-exiled activists, as a "liar" when referring to his article published in The Wall Street Journal yesterday (Jul 9).
Tang wrote to the editor of the Wall Street Journal today and stated that Hui's opinion piece, which was titled "China Puts a Bounty on My Head", was full of misinformation and lies.
"It is a blatant affront to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and to our country," Tang wrote. "Apart from expressing my outrage, I write also to set the record straight."
Hui stated in his article that the Communist Party was determined to silence him even though he left Hong Kong three years ago.
Tang said Hui deceived the court by furnishing false documents to jump bail.
"It is no surprise that he tried to whitewash himself for all the evil acts he had done through false claims."
He added that endangering national security is a serious offence, and no country will respond with folded arms.
Tang stressed that no one is above the law, and the government will make every effort with all necessary measures to bring absconders who allegedly have committed offences under the law to justice.
