This year’s number of perfect scorers at eight dropped drastically from last year’s 36 and 43, figures logged before and after students appealed their results.
A total of 861 students from seven ESF secondary schools sat the IB exams and achieved 36.1 points on average, higher than the global average of 30.2 points.
The eight perfect scorers are Ady Lam and Fiorelli Ying Wong from ESF Island School, Vianca Ng and Katherine Arianna Yan from ESF King George V School, Cedric Poon from ESF Renaissance College, and Aaron Lee, Anneka Leung, and Kadence Wong from ESF Sha Tin College.
Lam will be studying cognitive science at the Northwestern University in the U.S., while Leung chooses to study design at either the University of Melbourne or the University of New South Wales in Australia.
Ng, Lee and Kadence Wong will be studying medicine at the University of Hong Kong or the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Poon will do either international business or law at the HKU.
Among the 861 ESF students, 269 or 31.2 percent scored 40 points or above and 547 or 63.5 percent scored 35 points or above.
“Our results are just remarkable, not just here in Hong Kong, but they’re really of global significance. Because the average score that we’ve got across ESF is way above the global average,” said Rob Shorthouse, ESF Director of Strategy & Communications.
Belinda Greer, Chief Executive Officer of ESF, also said results achieved by ESF students in the IB exams are exceptional and of global significance.
“These results are a testament to the dedication and perseverance of all of our students, their families, and the expertise of our highly-skilled educators.
“These results not only reflect well on ESF, but also contribute to Hong Kong’s reputation as a city that values a robust educational system. Such achievements play a key role in attracting new talent to the region and serve as evidence of the quality of education available in Hong Kong,” said Greer.
