The University Grants Committee (UGC) launched the Fund for Innovative Technology-in-Education (FITE) on Wednesday, with a funding allocation of HK$100 million, to encourage universities to harness innovative and breakthrough technologies in education to enrich students' learning experiences.
The UGC said regarding the advent of generative artificial intelligence, the widespread adoption of technologies like Web3 and digital competency plays a significant role in economic restructuring, the launch of FITE could support the experimental and exploratory endeavours of universities in enhancing their teaching and learning.
The UGC-funded universities are welcome to utilise the FITE for different initiatives under driving transformation in pedagogies and curriculum; advancing digital competency for all; promoting technological social responsibilities and academic integrity; and fostering academia-industry collaboration for authentic learning experience.
In addition, universities could make use of the funding for other initiatives aiming at advancing the use of technology in teaching and learning.
