A 29-year-old mother accused of killing her three young daughters in a subdivided flat in Sham Shui Po was on Monday ruled mentally fit to stand trial, but there will be a delay of months to allow police to comb through evidence.
The woman, Amina, has been charged with three counts of murder early this month after she allegedly suffocated her three daughters with a pillow in their subdivided flat on Kweilin Street.
The victims were her three daughters - identified as Bibi, two, Raina, four, and Aayat, five.
Her previous court hearings have been adjourned as prosecutors requested to obtain psychiatric reports of the defendant to determine whether she is fit to plea and stand trial.
The Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts heard today that the reports indicated that the defendant is fit to plea and stand trial, while the magistrate adjourned the case to September 4 upon the prosecution’s request to allow more time for the police to investigate, including combing through security camera footage, review autopsy reports, and take witness statements.
The defendant was not required to enter a plea and did not apply for bail, which she will be remanded in custody until her next court appearance.
