Police said Friday that five men and a woman had been arrested for their involvement in damaging multiple showrooms and a service center of the Chinese automaker BYD.
The arrests were made yesterday and today (Thu and Fri) after three showrooms and a service center were splashed with red paint and had their gates crashed into by vehicles in the early hours of Monday.
Police from New Territories North regional anti-triad unit first targeted four vehicles – three used as transport by the arrestees responsible for splashing the red paint and one used for ramming into the metal gate.
Police then seized three vehicles in Yuen Long and Tuen Mun over the past two days and arrested five men and one woman aged between 34 and 48. They are reportedly unemployed, delivery workers and car mechanics.
It is understood that all five arrested men are members of a triad society.
All six were remanded in police custody overnight, and police have laid holding charges of criminal damage against two of them.
Police are still investigating the incident to determine if someone ordered them to commit the crimes. Police added they may make more arrests.
So far, no evidence suggests the target was the BYD brand itself, police said.
