Court papers regarding ban on protest anthem uploaded to govt websites for public perusal

The government on Wednesday, pursuant to the court order, uploaded the relevant legal documents regarding its application for an injunction to ban the public from playing a protest song.

This came after the Department of Justice applied to the Court of First Instance last Monday (June 5) for court injunctions to prohibit four classes of acts relating to the song "Glory to Hong Kong." After which, the judge asked the government to post the court papers, Chinese and English versions of press releases regarding the injunction on the government, police, and DOJ websites for public access.

The copies of the writ of summons, the summons for an interim injunction, and the court order relating to the government's application have been uploaded to the websites mentioned above.

It added that anyone who opposes the application for the injunction must reach the Wan Chai division report room on or before next Wednesday (June 21) and file their grounds of opposition in writing within seven days.  

The injunction seeks to restrain anyone with criminal intent from broadcasting, performing, printing, publishing, selling, offering for sale, distributing, disseminating, displaying, or reproducing the song in any way - including on the Internet.  

The next hearing will start on July 21 and may take three hours.
