The extension of the accident and emergency (A&E) department of Tuen Mun Hospital will commence service this Thursday, with manpower from the New Territories West Cluster ready to assist in the transition.
The renovated emergency room will provide 150 seats in the waiting area, four registration counters, five triage stations, ten consultation rooms, etc., along with a new waiting area for patients with fevers to mitigate the risk of cross infection.
The extension part of the department is designed according to the patient consultation procedure, aiming at making the flow of medical consultations smoother and more convenient.
The new main entrance of the A&E department will move to the operating theatre extension block of the hospital.
During the transition process, the New Territories West Cluster will arrange for additional nurses and doctors to assist in handling new and old patients in preparation for a sudden influx of patients.
The waiting area of the existing emergency room will stop service for the next stage of renovation.
Additional operating rooms will also be put into operation in the fourth quarter, bringing an additional 20 theatres, which will likely decrease the waiting time for the booking of operations.
