Two police officers each fired a shot as they arrested a driver who rammed his car into a police vehicle to make his escape on Princess Margaret Road on Saturday morning. No casualties were reported.
The incident occurred around 11.45 am today when a private car driver was traveling towards Kowloon in Lion Rock Tunnel and spotted another car with the same license plate.
The private car driver then filed a police report, and officers from West Kowloon traffic headquarters soon initiated a pursuit. The driver of the suspicious car later found he was being tailed by police and sped up.
As the police pursuit continued on Princess Margaret Road, officers pulled over their vehicle in the middle of the road to intercept the suspicious car. Yet, the driver hit the gas, rammed the suspicious car into the police vehicle, and crashed into the fence railing on the roadside.
A police sergeant and a constable then each fired a shot to subdue the driver. The driver, wearing a black T-shirt and shorts, was cuffed and taken onboard a police vehicle in a hood.
Other armed officers soon rushed to the scene to provide backup and aid investigations.
