The Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races will be held on June 24 and 25 this year after a 4-year break, attracting over 160 teams from all over the globe to participate in 17 different events at Victoria Harbour.
Over 4,000 participants will take part in the races, with Australia, Thailand, and the Philippines sending out their national teams for the competitions.
The Hong Kong Tourism Board has stated that among the 17 races, the first-ever Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Championship, which will feature teams consisting of elites from 11 cities in the Greater Bay Area, will headline the event.
The Hong Kong-Macau Trophy, which will be the first collaboration with Macau, will invite six teams from the mainland, Thailand, and the Philippines for the finals.
In order to attract more overseas dragon boat teams, the board has also set up a cash prize for the five major races: the International Championship, the International Open Grand Championship, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Championship, the Hong Kong Championship, and the Hong Kong-Macau Trophy, in which the winning teams can take home US$10,000 (HK$78,000) in prize money.
