Hong Kong Customs busted a suspected smuggling case at the Lok Ma Chau control point on Monday, seizing HK$860,000 worth of coffee machines, coffee mugs, and saucers accessories.
The case came to light after officers intercepted an inbound container truck declared to be carrying carton boxes yesterday. Upon inspection, a batch of smuggled coffee machines, mugs, and saucer accessories was found inside the container.
The batch of items seized by Customs includes 30 sets of suspected smuggled coffee machines and 69 cartons of coffee mugs and saucer accessories.
A 55-year-old male driver suspected to be connected with the case is assisting in the investigation.
Members of the public were reminded that smuggling is a serious offense. Any person found guilty of importing or exporting unmanifested cargo could face a maximum fine of HK$2 million and seven years imprisonment.
