An 82-year-old woman was robbed of her two gold rings by a “good Samaritan” after she tripped over a curb planter when crossing Cheung Sha Wan Road near a Sham Shui Po MTR exit.
Police said the incident happened at around 2am on Thursday morning, with the woman Wong attempting to cross the six-lane Cheung Sha Wan Road without using the pedestrian crossing.
Wong was said to have lost her footing when climbing over the curb planter, injuring her fingers in the process.
It is understood that a man, possibly not a local, approached Wong to help her back on her feet, but to the 82-year-old’s surprise, the man then snatched her two gold rings worth around HK$10,000 and ran.
Passersby heard Wong’s call for help and filed a report to the police. Wong refused to be hospitalized.
Officers responded to the scene have classified the case as robbery.
