The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department urged the public to have their refrigerators checked if they are using one of the eight models of Hitachi refrigerators it named on Thursday.
Those who owned one of the models should contact Arcelik Hitachi Home Appliances Sales Hong Kong Limited for arranging a free on-site inspection and component replacement service, said the department.
The eight models of refrigerators concerned are as follows:
R-26NVH; Serial number: 1150700001 - 1160600269
R-S37NVH; Serial number: 1150600001 - 1160600108
R-26SVH; Serial number: 1160800001 - 1120400105
R-S31SVH; Serial number: 1160900001 - 1180300683
R-S37SVH; Serial number: 1160900001 - 1180300314
R-SF37WVPH; Serial number: 1170300001 - 1120400064
R-S31SVH-1; Serial number: 1180400001 - 1120100180
R-S37SVH-1; Serial number: 1180400001 - 1111100031
The affected batches of refrigerators were on sale in Hong Kong from 2005 to 2012.
The department noted that, according to the information provided by the supplier, there was a refrigerant seepage case occurred at the internal metal pipe of the refrigerator, suspected to be caused by improper maintenance without following the instruction manual.
“Under an extremely rare scenario where depletion occurred simultaneously at the insulation material of an internal component after prolonged usage, the concerned refrigerator might impose a safety risk,” the department statement wrote.
