The owner of a freshwater fish stall at Tin Chak Market said 20 grass carps died last night as the air pump could not produce oxygen without electricity. He added that each of the grass carps is worth about HK$300.
"It has been difficult these days," he said. "CLP should compensate us."
Another fish stall worker noted a loss of 35 large grass carps with an average price of over HK$200 each because the air pump did not work.
A staff member of a frozen meat store in the market said the power was suddenly cut off when the shop was about to close. Although the power supply was restored this morning, the refrigerator was left without electricity overnight, and some of the frozen meat had spoiled.
She said the store owner was counting the exact loss and estimated to reach several thousand dollars.
