Residents in parts of Kowloon City and Mong Kok have been ordered to undergo compulsory Covid-19 tests after sewage tested positive for the coronavirus.
The testing notice applies to residents of Sheung Ching House, Kai Ching Estate, as well as those in the vicinity of Yau Tsim Mong sewage testing area 116 – near Shanghai Street and Fife Street.
Authorities were conducting Covid-19 tests Monday evening at Choi Wan Estate, Ming Lai House, 628-632A Shanghai Street, 1K Fife Street, and 35-37A Argyle Street. Secretary for Food and Health Sophia Chan Siu-chee was spotted on Fife Street.
The government urges citizens, including those who have already been vaccinated, to follow compulsory testing guidelines and to complete testing on time. Authorities will set up temporary test collection stations to enforce the testing mandate.
On the other hand, following up on positive sewage testing results in Tai Po, Tsuen Wan, and Kowloon City, the Home Affairs Department will distribute rapid antigen test kits to residents in Tsui Wo House, Tai Wo Estate starting Tuesday.
Citizens are advised to seek medical attention at Accident and Emergency Departments should the rapid test show positive results. Residents who test positive should stay home to avoid spreading the virus.
The government stresses that rapid antigen testing is not a substitute for the compulsory testing requirement. Those in doubt about their health condition should undergo a nucleic acid test at testing centers.
