A series of crowd and traffic control will be implemented at Mong Kok Flower Market for five days starting Thursday.
The move came as the police force expected to see a surge in the number of people going to the flower market after the Lunar New Year Fair was canceled.
The control measures will be enforced from 8am Thursday to 8am February 1, the first day of the Lunar New Year.
Restrictions will be imposed at exits A and B1 of Prince Edward MTR Station – people can leave the station, but not enter from the exits.
Three minibus lines and 10 bus lines will be rerouted.
Flower Market Road, Yuen Ngai Street, Yuen Po Street and Prince Edward Road West between Sai Yee Street and Yuen Po Street will be closed to traffic. Only emergency vehicles are allowed to enter.
Merchants' vehicles can enter the area to unload products between midnight and 5pm with a time limit of 30 minutes. Illegal parking vehicles will be given tickets immediately and towed away.
"If the crowd increases, the control area may be extended to Fa Yuen Street, some sectors of Sai Yee Street and Playing Field Road, and Prince Edward Road West to the junction with Nathan Road," police said.
If so, citizens will only be allowed to enter the market from the junction of Playing Field Road and Fa Yuen Street.
Citizens were suggested to avoid going on weekends or peak days such as the Lunar New Year Eve, and to use public transportation as much as possible.
