Yau Tong MTR station has reopened on Saturday afternoon after firefighters put out a fire that started at the train doors on the Kwun Tong Line train platform.
The station was closed around 1pm, with MTR saying there was “a problem with the Platform Screen Doors equipment at Yau Tong Station.”
According to sources at the scene, there was a fire at the train screen doors on the Kwun Tong Line train platform heading to Whampoa.
As shown in the notice board, it warned passengers of a “serious incident” and urged “Please leave the station immediately.”
Large crowds of commuters then evacuated the scene while firefighters arrived at the station.
At about 2.30pm, MTR said the station had reopened. Passengers will have to wait around four minutes for a train traveling between Whampoa station and Kwun Tong station.
Yet, train services between Kwun Tong station and Tiu Keng Leng station are still suspended. A free MTR shuttle bus is now operating as a replacement for citizens.
It was understood that passengers in the paid area at Tiu Keng Leng station could leave the station for free.
