Approximately 9,800 Octopus card-operated roadside parking meters have been replaced by new ones as part of the government’s smart mobility initiative, the Transport Department has announced on Monday.

The new parking meters allow drivers to pay their parking fees using Octopus, contactless credit cards such as Visa payWave, MasterCard Contactless and UnionPay QuickPass, Faster Payment System ("FPS"), AlipayHK, WeChat Pay and Union QR.
On-site and remote payments of parking fees are supported through the mobile app “HKeMeter”.
The new meters are equipped with sensors that detect whether a parking space is occupied and provide real-time information to assist motorists in finding vacant parking spaces, allowing drivers to locate parking spaces more efficiently.
The Transport Department reminds holders of e-Park cards to apply for a refund and visit the designated outlets at 12/F, HKT Lockhart Exchange Building, 3 Hennessy Road, Wan Chai and G/F, HKT Tsuen Wan Exchange Building, 303-313 Castle Peak Road, Tsuen Wan on or before June 30.
The Department began installing 12,000 new parking meters in phases from January 20 last year, and the replacement of all existing parking meters is estimated to be completed in the first half of 2022.
