Worried Tuen Mun residents rushed to get tested at eight Covid-19 testing centers on Wednesday, after health officials warned about hidden transmission chains in their community.
Many of the locally transmitted Covid cases in recent days were reported to have been to Tuen Mun, with many restaurants in the district included in the compulsory testing notice.
More than a hundred residents arrived at the centers as walk-ins this morning, causing long queues as people wait for up to hours to be admitted.
The eight testing centers including three community testing centers at Siu Lun Community Hall, Home Affairs Department On Ting/Yau Oi Community Centre and Kin Sang Community Hall, and five mobile testing stations at Yau Oi Sports Centre, Yau Oi Soccer Pitch, San Wo Lane Playground, Butterfly Bay Community Centre and Tai Hing Community Hall.
Most of the testing centers will operate from 10am to 8pm, while the testing center at Siu Lun Community Hall will operate from 8am to 10pm. The On Ting/Yau Oi Community Centre will also have different opening hours starting at 10am till 8pm.
Covid testing at all eight testing sites will be free of charge for Tuen Mun residents or people who work in the district.
On tuesday, more than 2,000 of the almost 500,000 residents in Tuen Mun, including elderly, children and the blind, were waiting outside the mobile testing station at the Home Affairs Department On Ting/Yau Oi Community Centre since afternoon with some need to queue for more than three hours for the test.
