Taiwan is expected to tighten regulations on issuing residence permits for Hong Kong and Macau residents, requesting those who have worked at the SAR governments to report whether they have bear allegiance to the government and uphold the Basic Law.
According to Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Hong Kong’s website, the application form now also requests applicants — permanent residents aged 18 years or above from Hong Kong or Macau — to list all work experience after graduation, as opposed to the work experience in ten years.
The Mainland Affairs Council, Taiwan's top government agency handling China policy, said they have no comment on individual cases.
However, applicants who might endanger Taiwan’s national security will have their applications rejected, according to the Regulations Governing Permits for Hong Kong and Macao Residents Entering the Taiwan Area and Setting up Residence or Registered Permanent Residence in R.O.C.
Article 22 of the regulation listed all circumstances that the authorities may reject one's residence permit applications, including engaging in activities that would have conflicts with the national interest, security, public safety, and public order.
