Police are hunting for a man who reportedly stole an empty cash register after breaking into a cafe on Shantung Street in Mong Kok early this morning.
The burglary, which happened at around 5.30am, was caught on camera.
The burglar was seen smashing through the glass door of the cafe and went for the cash register sitting on the counter. He pulled it off and left straight away.
Police said it only took the thief about 20 seconds, stealing an empty cash register worth around HK$1,000.
After initial investigation by the police, the case was classified as a serial burglary and was handed over to the Criminal Investigation Team of the Mong Kok Police District for follow-up. No one has been arrested yet.
According to reports, the cafe has been burgled two years ago, losing around HK$50,000 in cash. The cafe has left no cash inside the cashier overnight since then.
