Three Tai Po district councillors and their assistants were among 23 people arrested by police following an unauthorized rally in Tai Po against government plans to use a local clinic to treat suspected Covid-19 cases.
Dalu Lin Kok-cheung, Phoenix Man Nim-chi and Herman Yiu Kwan-ho were among those arrested for unlawful assembly near Tai Po Mega Mall on Sunday.
At around 8 pm, the three confronted a plainclothes officer, who refused to answer their questions and left the scene.
Shortly after, officers rushed out of the mall, arresting the three.
That came after the police used pepper spray on protesters around 3pm and arrested 10 others for unlawful assembly, obstructing public officers in the execution of duty, possession of offensive weapons and theft. Several more arrests were made as police entered the mall.
Separately, 63 people were arrested in Tseung Kwan O on Sunday following an unauthorized assembly for a student who died four months ago.
