Over 70 complaints made against police last year substantiated

A total of 78 complaints submitted to the Independent Police Complaints Council last year are substantiated where there is sufficient reliable evidence to support the allegations.

Among the 78 complaints, 40 of them are proved to be substantiated through further query brought up by the council after being classified as unsubstantiated or no fault from the police officers.

The council has taken action after conducting full investigations into the wrongdoings of 80 officers, including two of the officers having to undergo disciplinary reviews.

The council has received 1,478 reportable complaints last year, around 40 less than the previous year. There were also 2,209 allegations made, the three allegations including “assault”, “unnecessary use of authority” and “fabrication of evidence” are on the rise.
