The government will soon finalize the "Quota-free scheme for Hong Kong private cars traveling to Guangdong via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge" with the Guangdong government and relevant Mainland authorities, according to Secretary for Transport Frank Chan Fan.
Chan said the initial planning is that eligible participants of the scheme can stay for no more than 30 consecutive days upon each entry to the Mainland and no more than 180 days within a year in aggregate.
Applicants and drivers should also possess valid identity documents for entry to the Mainland as well as Hong Kong and Mainland driving licenses.
Those private cars participating in the scheme should be an eight-seater or below and have obtained relevant vehicle licenses or permits including a Closed Road Permit for cross-boundary vehicles.
“After running the Scheme for a period of time, we may extend the Scheme to the Hong Kong-Shenzhen land boundary control point, such that Hong Kong private cars can travel to both the eastern and western parts of Guangdong without a quota,” Chan added.
