A 37-year-old woman gave birth outside Eastern Hospital on Sunday evening after rushing there by taxi when she went into labour while shopping in Chai Wan.
The woman, surnamed Law, felt strong contractions around 6pm and took a taxi to the hospital. As the taxi neared the entrance, the pain intensified and she got out. After walking a few steps, she fell and delivered the baby on the ground outside the hospital.
Police and ambulance crews arrived to find the newborn already delivered. The mother and baby were in stable condition and taken inside for examination.
