The Hong Kong Extended Reality Association and PolyU's Department of Computing have co-hosted an XR Dialogue and project awards ceremony to support the growth of extended reality technologies in Hong Kong's cultural tourism sector.
The event featured industry experts including HTC's Business Development Director Larence Cheung and HKDI Gallery Curator Jonathan Wong, who discussed XR's potential for creating immersive historical tours and interactive cultural festivals. HKXRA Chairman Terry Dao emphasized the need to increase public awareness and cross-sector collaboration in XR development.
PolyU students from the MSc in Metaverse Technology program presented innovative XR projects, competing for a HK$100,000 prize pool sponsored by HKXRA. Professor Peter Ng noted the partnership helps graduates contribute to Hong Kong's creative industries.
Speakers identified challenges including high rental costs while highlighting XR's potential to transform traditional entertainment sectors through new creative opportunities.
