48-year-old mother arrested for allegedly leaving 14-year-old daughter alone in Yau Ma Tei flat

A 48-year-old mother was arrested on suspicion of child neglect after her 14-year-old daughter was found home alone in Yau Ma Tei on Wednesday afternoon.

Police were alerted around 4pm by a school teacher who reported the girl absent from classes and unable to contact her mother, surnamed Wong.

Officers located the teenager alone at a flat on Waterloo Road after initial investigations. The mother, a mainland Chinese holding a two-way permit, was arrested for "ill-treatment or neglect of a child or young person" and remains in custody.

The case has been transferred to the Yau Tsim district crime squad. The girl was unharmed and taken to Kwong Wah Hospital for examination in conscious condition.
