The event, hosted by the railway firm’s wholly owned subsidiary MTR Nordic, marked the end of the operating concession that will officially expire on November 2 this year.
More than 250 staff, partners, and stakeholders attended the gathering, which paid tribute to the contributions of MTR Nordic colleagues and the Metro’s role in connecting communities across the Swedish capital.

MTR hosts a grand reception as its Stockholm Metro concession ends on 2 November.
Distinguished guests included Jakop Dalunde, Chair of the Traffic Committee of Region Stockholm, which oversees public transport in the region; Erik Norling, CEO and Head of the Public Transit Administration in Stockholm; and David Tang, Property and International Business Director of MTR Corporation, who officiated at the ceremony.
In his remarks, Tang said it had been MTR’s honor to operate the Stockholm Metro and share its expertise in railway development and operations. He noted that over the past decade, the system has earned a reputation as one of Europe’s best-performing public transport networks, achieving consistently high service reliability and customer satisfaction.

David Tang says MTR is honored to participate in the Stockholm Metro project and in sharing its expertise in railway development and operations.
He noted that the Stockholm Metro’s success is a testament to the professionalism, dedication and teamwork of colleagues at MTR Nordic, adding that their commitment has been instrumental in keeping the city moving and strengthening public confidence in sustainable urban transport.
Under MTR’s management, the Stockholm Metro achieved significant operational improvements, with punctuality rising from 93.5 percent in 2010 to 98.7 percent in 2025, and customer satisfaction climbing from 78 percent to 85 percent. The network also received the prestigious Swedish Quality Award twice, in 2014 and 2018, in recognition of its service excellence.
Owned by Region Stockholm through Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (Stockholm Public Transport), the Stockholm Metro spans 108 kilometres with 100 stations—47 of them underground—and serves about one million passenger boardings daily.
MTR Nordic first took over operations of the network in 2009 under an eight-year operation and maintenance concession, which was subsequently extended twice, covering the periods from 2017 to 2023 and from 2023 to 2025.
