Man detained over suspected clothes, shoes theft in To Kwa Wan building

Police investigated a suspected theft case in To Kwa Wan early Thursday after a man was reportedly caught stealing clothing and shoes.

Authorities received a report around midnight stating that a man had been apprehended by a male resident and security guard at 5-7 San Lau Street's Cheong Shing Gold Store Building for allegedly stealing garments and footwear.

Upon arrival, officers searched the suspect but found no suspicious items. Police also examined the man's Tesla vehicle parked outside the building without discovering any evidence.

The case is being treated as suspected loitering. The suspect, dressed in black clothing and shoes, was repeatedly escorted in and out of the building during the investigation and was seen covering his face to avoid media cameras.

The complainant was identified as a member of the building's owners' corporation.
