What had started as a community isolation facility during the Covid pandemic has officially begun trial operations as a Kai Tak youth hostel, offering 250 guest rooms for youth groups.
During this trial period, discounted rates start at HK$200 per night for single rooms.
The “Runway 1331” project has a five-year lease term and its youth hostel will be rolled out in four phases. Once fully operational, the hostel is expected to provide 2,000 guest rooms, accommodating up to 5,000 people.
Long-term rentals will range from HK$3,000 to HK$6,000 per month, with at least 100 free rooms reserved for skilled youth.
“Tenants who are rent-free will need to contribute to the community — for example, by teaching breakdancing to others in the area for free,” said Winnie Chiu Wing-kwan, a director from project developer Glorise Tourism & Culture.
Chiu added that shuttle buses will connect "Runway 1331" with Kai Tak MTR Station, with increasing service frequency.
Beyond accommodation, the project will include shared workspaces, performance venues, outdoor activity areas, and a drone performance zone.
Denny Lo, director and general manager of Glorise Tourism & Culture, said that the project includes four special zones – cultural, art, sports, and performances – creating new hubs for youth exchanges with the Greater Bay Area and international communities.
“Nowadays, young people want places that are trendy, stylish, and phototaking-worthy – we aim to achieve that effect,” Lo said.
The project will feature a commercial area for food and creative products, a performance hall, and an open-air plaza for events like street performances, he added.
Additionally, annual festivals, carnivals, cultural markets, workshops, concerts, exhibitions, and drone operation training will be organized in collaboration with partners, catering to young people’s interests in lifestyle, creativity, sports, and entrepreneurship.
