The police announced on Monday the implementation of the gradual issuance of electronic fixed penalty notices and the launch of the "eTraffic Ticket Platform" starting June 15 for citizens to pay their fines.
Upon the implementation in June, the police emphasized that only vehicle owners who have submitted verified electronic contact to the Transport Department will receive electronic fixed penalty notices via SMS or email.
The electronic tickets will include the notice number, license plate number, date, time, location, and electronic payment number.
There will also be a transitional period for the public to adapt to digital tickets, during which the police will issue both paper and electronic tickets.
If fines are not paid on time, the police will send a fine notice to the offender's registered address.
To enhance convenience for vehicle owners, a dedicated website and mobile app will be launched, allowing drivers to review their electronic tickets and make online payments using credit cards and FPS.
Meanwhile, the police stated that traditional payment methods, such as ATMs and online banking, will still be available.
Owing to reports of fraudulent SMS messages about unpaid fines, the police emphasized that electronic tickets will be sent under the name "#HKPT-eTT" and will not contain any hyperlinks.
The police also advised the drivers to ensure the domain ends in ".gov.hk" when accessing their ticket information.
Regarding the timeline for full implementation of the electronic system, the police indicated that it would depend on public acceptance and urged citizens to utilize the electronic platforms to adapt to the new ticketing system.
