Tesla is preparing to launch its Cybercab, with public deployment expected to begin as early as this month in Austin, Texas, The Information reported.
The service will be first offered to employees for rides on public roads, and within a few days, the Cybercab may be integrated into Tesla's Austin Robotaxi service.
Tesla has been preparing for the Cybercab launch in recent weeks, including test drives, employee ride experiences on private roads, and training sessions with local first responders, the report said.
The Cybercab is a vehicle designed specifically for autonomous driving, with its most notable feature being the absence of brake pedals or a steering wheel. The goal is for the vehicle to eventually carry passenger-carrying tasks without any human driver intervention.
Tesla had already begun testing its Cybercab production version on public roads in Austin as early as June, though the testing process still involved safety supervisors seated in the front passenger seat.
