MemeStrategy’s (2440) Grade10 has launched the world’s first trading card game market benchmark index series that track the most actively traded Pokémon and One Piece collectible cards in the market.
Developed by Grade10 and introduced following evaluation and professional guidance from professors at HKU Business School, the index series provides transparent, objective, and authoritative indicators of market trends, Grade10 said in a statement on Tuesday.
By addressing long-standing challenges in the traditional collectibles market, including pricing opacity and fragmented data, the launch marks a significant step towards the standardization of trading card assets and the adoption of a more data-driven market framework, the trading card brand said.
The three core indices strictly focus on cards graded PSA 10 Gem Mint (the highest grade) and are weighted based on actual market trading volumes:
• PTCG100 Index: Tracks the 100 most actively traded Pokémon PSA 10 Gem Mint cards
• PTCG500 Index: Tracks the 500 most actively traded Pokémon PSA 10 Gem Mint cards
• OPCG100 Index: Tracks the 100 most actively traded One Piece PSA 10 Gem Mint cards
The indices are rebalanced on a quarterly basis, with newly issued cards subject to a 90-day "seasoning period" before inclusion, ensuring adequate market depth and trading activity, the company said.
Trading activity in the TCG market has accelerated significantly in recent years, with Pokémon remaining the dominant franchise and One Piece emerging as a strong secondary driver of market growth, Grade10 said.
Market data indicates that leading TCG assets exhibit low correlation with traditional financial markets and have demonstrated notable resilience during periods of macroeconomic volatility, it noted.
The Pokémon-focused PTCG100 Index has maintained a consistent upward trajectory since its inception, rising over 190 percent from February 2023 and over 70 percent this year.
Top-graded Pokémon and One Piece collectible cards have significantly outperformed these traditional equity benchmarks over the past three and a half years, highlighting the substantial growth potential of the market and further reinforcing the position of premium collectible cards as an emerging alternative asset class with compelling long-term investment characteristics, Grade10 added.
