Wall Street's main indexes slipped at the open on Tuesday after data broadly signaled a cooling U.S. economy, paving the way for more monetary policy easing by the Federal Reserve next year.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 36.4 points, or 0.08 percent, to 48,380.17 at the open. The S&P 500 fell 16.4 points, or 0.24 percent, to 6,800.12 , while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 75.6 points, or 0.33 percent, to 22,981.819.
