Wang Linpeng, chairman of China's leading home furnishing retailer Easyhome New Retail and former richest man in Hubei province, died by suicide on Sunday at the age of 57, mainland media reported.
Wang was ranked 2,188th on this year's Hurun Global Rich List with an estimated fortune of 12.5 billion yuan (HK$15.50 billion). He previously held a net worth of 36.8 billion yuan (HK$40.38 billion) as Hubei's richest man.
Easyhome said on April 18 that Wang had been placed under detention, sparking market concern. On July 23, the company said the detention was lifted and replaced by supervision during investigation, and that Wang had returned to his duties.
