Financial Services Development Council and Friends of the Earth will participate in the China Pavilion Side Event at the 30th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, focusing on advancing transition finance and cross-border green financing.
Held on November 11 in Belém, Brazil, FSDC and FoE will engage with international stakeholders and share Hong Kong's progress in transition finance in COP30, said Au King-lun, executive director at FSDC.
The primary challenge in addressing climate change is securing funding, which is a key strength of Hong Kong as a global financial hub, said Plato Yip Kwong-to, chairperson at FoE.
Recently, green investment has shown a slowdown trend in growth, dropping to 11 percent last year from over 20 percent increase in 2022 and 2023, Au noted, citing the data from the International Energy Agency.
He added that Hong Kong can help mobilise international capital and offer professional solutions to boost investors' confidence, reinforcing its role as the leading green and sustainable finance hub.
