Recognized as one of the most important developments in human society, information technology has undergone phenomenal advances in the last 30 years, bringing huge transformations to our lives and business operations. Today, information technology specialists have become indispensable to companies and organizations, helping to support their operation and growth.
In view of the growing demand for these professionals, the Faculty of Engineering of The University of Hong Kong has introduced three Master’s programs in electronic commerce and internet computing, financial technology and data analytics, and computer science, to equip students with up-to-date professional knowledge in these fields.
Master of Science in Electronic Commerce & Internet Computing
Established in September 1999, the MSc(ECom&IComp) program was the first of its kind offered in the Asia Pacific region. The curriculum structure is designed to meet the ever-changing needs of the global business market and offers great flexibility for students to choose the course that matches their interests and professional development.
The courses are taught by world-renowned professors from prestigious universities, as well as information technology experts from the United States and Australia. They bring with them a vast store of knowledge and teaching experience, together with a global vision in sync with the latest trends in the market.
Master of Science in Computer Science
Operating for more than two decades, the MSc(CompSc) program equips students with advanced and in-depth knowledge in Computer Science, assisting them to achieve breakthroughs in work and research.
The best features of the curriculum are its diversity and flexibility. There are four streams of study - Cyber Security, Multimedia Computing, Financial Computing, and General Stream, covering a wide range of subjects from data engineering, cloud computing, blockchain technology, human-computer interaction research, deep learning to the study of financial fraud analytics.
Students can select the programs according to their interests and expertise. They are required to complete 8 courses with a dissertation; or 10 courses with a project.
Master of Science in Financial Technology and Data Analytics
In response to the job market’s demand for fintech-related talents, HKU has introduced the MSc(FTDA) program with the aim of training local talents in developing fintech projects, data analysis and network security.
The program has an interdisciplinary curriculum by drawing on the expertise from diverse areas of engineering, business, law, and statistics, with a technology focus. Through the courses, students will gain essential FinTech skills necessary for navigating the changing landscape of the finance industry, as well as knowledge of the hottest industry trends.
