MetroChallenge, organised by the Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU), aims to help students unleash their creative potential, translate their classroom knowledge into innovation, and enhance their entrepreneurial skills to turn innovative ideas into reality for profit and social good.
Focusing on the concepts of ‘Experience’ and ‘Empower’, the programme inspires innovation among students through various out-of-the-classroom learning activities. Interactive training workshops on design thinking, tours of local communities, and visits to start-ups in South Korea and Israel were among the many opportunities offered to students in the past to broaden their exposure and foster creativity.
Building on these first-hand experiences, students can develop a viable proposal for their innovations and compete for an implementation fund. Applications are assessed according to their originality and creativity, feasibility and social impact, and HK$100,000 is granted winners to support the execution of their projects. Since its launch in 2017, the programme has received 119 applications, attracted 3,786 events participants, and awarded a total of HK$2,000,000 to winning projects.
Application to MetroChallenge 2021/22 is now open to all full-time or part-time HKMU students and recent graduates.
