Taiwan jail wall damaged in 6.1 magnitude quake, no injuries or escapes

A wall at Taitung Prison in southeastern Taiwan was damaged in a 6.1 magnitude earthquake on Wednesday afternoon, but no injuries or escapes were reported.

The quake struck at 5.47pm, affecting shops and homes in the city and some public facilities. Photos of the damaged prison wall circulated online, raising security concerns.

The prison administration said it conducted a full inspection immediately after the tremor. All personnel were safe, and no inmates were injured or escaped. Operations are normal.
