Observatory warns of squally thunderstorms and heavy rain through Tue

The Gale or Storm Signal, No. 8 will be issued at 6.20 pm as Super Typhoon Yagi edges closer to Hong Kong, said the Observatory.
It added that the T8 signal is expected to remain in force until Friday (Sep 6) at noon after it is hoisted.
The weather watchdog said Yagi will skirt around 300 kilometers to the southwest of Hong Kong tonight and tomorrow morning, according to the forecast track.
The Strong Wind Signal No. 3 typhoon warning has been in force since 6.40pm on Wednesday.
Yagi continued to track westwards over the past few hours with super typhoon intensity and its associated outer rainbands affecting the coast of Guangdong.
At 6 pm, Yagi was estimated to be about 340 kilometers south of Hong Kong and is forecast to move west-northwest at about 15 kilometers per hour across the northern part of the South China Sea.
In the past hour, the maximum sustained winds recorded at Ngong Ping, Waglan Island and Green Island were 72, 71 and 59 kilometers per hour with maximum gusts exceeding 106, 81 and 90 kilometers per hour, respectively.
