Over 8200 parking tickets issued daily in 2023, bringing in around HK$1 billion in fines

About 3.01 million illegal parking tickets were issued in 2023 - more than 8,240 tickets handed out daily on average - bringing in HK$964 million to the government reserves, the police said.

A total of 3,013,019 fixed penalty notices were issued for illegal parking last year, a 350,452 decrease compared to 2022. Counting each ticket with a minimum fine of HK$320, the government received HK$112 million less in fines in 2023.

Over 2.95 million tickets were issued through electronic means, accounting for 98 percent of the total.

The government noted that it has been reviewing whether there is a need to adjust the fines for traffic offenses, and factors such as inflation rates and their deterrents will be considered.
