Hong Kong saw a near 40 percent year-on-year rise in visitors in March to 3.4 million, also charting a total of 11.23 million visitor arrivals in the first quarter of this year - a 1.5-fold year-on-year upsurge and a 5 percent quarter-on-quarter hike, according to preliminary figures announced by the Tourism Board.
Among the 3.4 million visitors in March, some 2.46 million were from Mainland China, a year-on-year rise of 25.4 percent. The number of non-Mainland visitors was 934,500, up 92.1 percent year-on-year.
Compared to the pre-pandemic figure of 5.86 million visitor arrivals in March 2019, the figure for March this year was still lower by 2.46 million.
