More than 100 people have spent the night at a temporary shelter in Henry G. Leong Yaumatei Community Centre after the No. 3 alarm fire in Jordan killed five and injured 40.
Some residents were seen leaving the center with their personal belongings this morning.
An elderly resident, Yau, who lived on the 7th floor of New Lucky House, said she had prepared dried rations and daily necessities for her stay at the center.
She recounted the incident yesterday (Apr 10) and said she could not leave her house due to the thick smoke. She also learned that her neighbor had lost consciousness in the staircases and passed away in the hospital.
She said she was glad she did not take the stairs, as she might have suffered the same fate.
Yau said she had lived in the building for about 40 years and had never experienced such a large fire.
Residents were also allowed to return to their homes temporarily to get their belongings on Thursday.
