More than 479,000 people gathered on both sides of Victoria Harbour last night (Dec 31) to ring in 2024 and enjoy the New Year's Eve musical and pyrotechnic extravaganza.
As the new year arrived, fireworks once again bloomed over Victoria Harbour.
This year's fireworks musical extravaganza themed "New Year New Legend" depicted the changing of the four seasons and the beauty of nature through colorful fireworks, as well as lighting effects and pyrotechnics set off from the rooftops of iconic buildings on Hong Kong Island.
Locals and tourists alike said they had to wait long hours for the fireworks display but thought that it was worth it in the end.
The fireworks displayed ended with a smiley face and hearts in the sky in hopes that more people will be smiling in the new year.
After the firework event, a large number of tourists and locals were seen leaving the scene, with the tourists having to wait for long hours for cross-boundary coaches in Mong Kok and Tsim Sha Tsui.
The organizers stated that they had increased the number of coaches at the scene, but there were still more tourists than expected, along with the delays caused by the road closures.
Some mainland tourists stated that they did not expect it would be this hard to cross the border and that they would never come to Hong Kong again.
However, some mainland netizens believed that Hong Kong had done an excellent job and hoped that when there are large-scale events in the future, the mainland and Hong Kong would communicate in advance, including extending the opening hours of the ports.
