Fourteen-year-old boy in court for trafficking HK$16m worth of heroin

A 14-year-old boy appeared at Fanling Magistrates’ Courts on Friday after he was earlier caught possessing over 20 kg of heroin worth about HK$16 million in a public housing unit as well as a mini storage unit. 

The unidentified boy faces two counts of trafficking in dangerous drugs. He needed not to enter a plea as he appeared before magistrate Cheng Lim-chi in court today. 

Cheng then adjourned the hearing to February 20 as requested by the prosecution, pending an examination report on the seized drugs. 

The boy is remanded in Tuen Mun Children and Juvenile Home until his next court appearance. 

The boy who had quit school was first arrested by police on Tuesday night in Queen’s Hill Estate in Fanling. Officers seized a total of 19 heroin bricks weighing 6.65 kg from him and his room. 

The 72-year-old father, a janitor, and the 48-year-old mother, a construction worker, were arrested as well. 

Police also raided a mini storage unit – believed to be rented by the drug trafficking syndicate – at an industrial building in Kwai Chung and further seized 40 heroin bricks weighing 14 kg. 

After preliminary investigation, police believe the boy was paid thousands of dollars by the syndicate to store and deliver the drugs. 

Police earlier warned that even an underage person has to face legal consequences after breaking the law. 

Police called on teenagers not to easily believe in the lies fabricated by syndicates and not to be attracted by monetary rewards.
